NEW YORK CITY (September 23, 2025) -- Today, with support from major donors from CIBC, United Way of New York City announces the expansion of the Broadway Community Shelter and Pantry. Through a sponsorship, the support has made possible a new breakfast station, library and private meeting space, and information kiosk. These dedicated additions will make the space more efficient, private, and welcoming for Broadway Community guests.
Broadway Community Shelter and Pantry offers a robust continuum of care that includes a soup kitchen, a seven-night-a-week-shelter, food pantry, on-site medical services, showers, case management, supportive counseling, employment assistance, housing navigation, and more. In the Broadway Community space, guests feel safe, supported, and empowered.
"With food pantry visits up 100 percent since before the pandemic, transformative solutions like this are crucial to meeting the growing need in our city and ensuring that everyone who needs access to resources is empowered," said Grace Bonilla, President and CEO of United Way of New York City. "This is a prime example of our mission in action-we meet today's most urgent needs while building transformative solutions for tomorrow. We are proud to work with major donors at CIBC and Broadway community, both pillars in the community, on this critical initiative."
"Partnerships like this are a manifestation of the essence of philanthropy-working with trusted organizations and leaders to unite community power with citywide possibility," said Melissa Browne, Senior Vice President, Chief Development Officer at United Way of New York City. "We are grateful to join forces with other community leaders to support our most vulnerable neighbors so that all New Yorkers can thrive with dignity."
"At CIBC, we believe in the power of community investment to create lasting change," said Scott Wilson, Vice Chair, US Capital Markets of CIBC and United Way of New York City Board Member. "Our group of Major Donors' contribution to Broadway Community reflects our deep commitment to supporting New Yorkers facing food insecurity. This expansion will create a more dignified and welcoming environment for those seeking help, and we're honored to partner with United Way of New York City and Broadway Community to make this vision a reality."
"For over 40 years, Broadway Community has been committed to serving our neighbors with dignity and respect," said Isaac Adlerstein, Executive Director of Broadway Community Shelter and Pantry. "Thanks to the generous support from major donors at CIBC and our longtime partnership with United Way of New York City, these new facilities will allow us to better serve the growing number of New Yorkers who depend on our services. These improvements are a testament to our community's commitment to ensuring everyone has access to the tools they need to rebuild their lives."
