On September 13, the knowledge competition marking the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War was successfully held at the Confucius Institute at Makerere University. H.E. Ambassador Zhang Lizhong attended the event and delivered remarks. Dr. Enoch, Head of the Department of European and Oriental Languages of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Makerere University, Prof. Tang Fei, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute, Prof. Gilbert Gumoshabe, Ugandan Director of the Confucius Institute, Ms. Wang Lihong, Head of Luyanzi Confucius Classroom, as well as representatives of Chinese enterprises, the overseas Chinese community in Uganda, and students were present.
Ambassador Zhang noted that the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War gave birth to the current international system with the United Nations at its core, and that the one-China principle has since become a broadly recognized consensus of the international community. He stressed that China made decisive contributions to the victory of the war and has always been a firm defender of world peace and development. He expressed the hope that Ugandan youth could, through this competition, remember history and safeguard the hard-won peace.
The Uganda side emphasized that remembering history is to better open up the future, and encouraged the participating students to become narrators and practitioners of world peace drive, making contributions to the advancement of Uganda-China friendship and cooperation.
