2025-07-11. "When World News Day launched, artificial intelligence was science fiction. Today, it is a seductive mix of convenience blended by truths, half-truths missing nuance and pure fiction." - David Walmsley, Editor-in-Chief, The Globe and Mail, and President of the World Editors Forum.

World News Day lands on 28 September - and this year, the stakes couldn't be higher.
The lines between fact, half-truth and fiction are blurring fast. AI-generated content floods platforms. Audiences are overwhelmed, uncertain who, or what, to trust.
In this climate, journalism must do more than inform. It must explain itself. It must defend its value.
"Journalism is the line for quality information," Walmsley reminds us.
"And journalists at their best are brave, independent, insatiably curious and resolute in their pursuit."
World News Day 2025is your newsroom's moment to step forward, to show how your reporting is done, why it's different, and why it matters.
Participating outlets receive free campaign materials, from digital and print ads to social videos and op-eds, to drive home the message that journalism matters. But why not do more? Spotlight your best journalism and its public value. Use your pages, newsletters and social channels to draw attention to the value you deliver.
Sign up now to receive campaign news and material.
Because in a world full of noise, real journalism must be seen and heard.
About World News Day
World News Day is a global campaign led by WAN-IFRA's World Editors Forum, Branko Brkic's Project Kontinuum, and the Canadian Journalism Foundation(CJF).
Its mission is simple but urgent: to unite newsrooms around the world on 28 September each year,to demonstrate the power and value of journalism.
This campaign encourages editors to highlight how their journalism makes a real difference in people's lives - especially for the audiences who rely on them most.
Each year, World News Day provides newsrooms with ready-to-use campaign materials, including social videos, digital and print ads, and op-eds to help amplify this message.
World News Day was conceived by David Walmsley and launched by the CJF in 2018. Since then it has grown steadily.
