Bresnahan, Secretary Duffy Push for Infrastructure Improvements at Nanticoke Bridge

Today, U.S. Representative Rob Bresnahan, Jr. (PA-08) welcomed U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy to Northeastern Pennsylvania for a tour of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport (AVP) and visit to the Nanticoke Bridge.

"Bridges don't care if you are a Republican or a Democrat, everyone needs to get from point A to point B," said Rep. Bresnahan. "Since the Nanticoke Bridge closed, businesses have been cut off, commuters and families are stuck in traffic, and emergency response times have nearly doubled. But this is not an isolated incident; nearly one in four bridges in NEPA have been deemed structurally deficient. That's why I'm fighting to put more federal infrastructure dollars directly in the hands of local communities. I thank Secretary Duffy for coming to NEPA and seeing firsthand why these investments matter, and I look forward to continuing the fight to keep Pennsylvania moving."

"From investing nearly $18 million into the air traffic control system and $3 million into family-friendly infrastructure at AVP to meeting with local leaders on the Nanticoke bridge, we're making sure Pennsylvanians have the state-of-the-art transportation they deserve. Thanks to local leaders like Rep. Bresnahan, the needs of northeast Pennsylvania will not be overlooked."

The Nanticoke Bridge, which closed to traffic in March 2025, connects the communities of West Nanticoke and Plymouth Township to Nanticoke. While it has the funding necessary to build, the bridge stands empty, awaiting the proper permitting that can take years to be approved.

Nearly 700,000 passengers traveled through AVP last year. While on a tour of the airport, Rep. Bresnahan and Secretary Duffy highlighted the $12.5 billion in air traffic control modernization passed through the Working Families Tax Cuts and the significant technology upgrades coming to AVP.
