The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory impacting Menlo Park and the Bay Area through 8 p.m. Friday, March 20. Take precautions now to avoid heat illness. Designated cooling centers are open daily.

Extremely hot weather can result in heatstroke, heat exhaustion, heat cramps, sunburn, heat rash and in some instances death. Please take safety measures to stay safe and lend a helping hand to family, friends and neighbors.

Remember that:

  • Extreme heat can strike quickly and without warning.
  • Older adults, children and people who are sick or overweight are at greatest risk from extreme heat.

Take precautions to avoid heat illness:

  • Go to an air-conditioned room.
  • Avoid strenuous activities.
  • Wear light clothing.
  • Check on relatives, neighbors and loved ones.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Never leave children or pets alone in closed vehicles.
