COLONIAL BEACH, Va. -In celebration of National Public Lands Day, George Washington Birthplace National Monument invites you to experience the wonder of the cosmos during a special evening program, "The Star-Spangled Night Sky," on Saturday, September 27, 2025, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

This free, 90-minute event will explore how the stars have shaped our American story-from the symbolism of stars on the U.S. flag to America's journey into space. Park rangers will also help visitors identify constellations and locate the Andromeda Galaxy, as well as use a telescope to observe the storied rings of Saturn. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own folding chairs or blankets to experience this very special evening under the stars.

"We're so pleased to offer this family-friendly event for National Public Lands Day," said Superintendent Melissa Cobern. "Contemplating the night sky at the birthplace of our first president is a unique opportunity to connect with our nation's history in a way few will ever experience."

In the event of inclement weather, the program will be postponed to Sunday, September 28.

George Washington Birthplace National Monument is located at 1732 Popes Creek Road, Colonial Beach VA.
