Rep. Sykes Urges METRO RTA and TWU Local 1 to Reach Contract Agreement

AKRON, OH - Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) sent a letter urging METRO RTA and the Transport Workers Union Local 1 to reach a fair contract to protect public transit in Akron and Summit County.

"I strongly encourage METRO RTA and the Transport Workers Union to reach a fair contract that honors the dignity of transit operators and avoids a strike so our community can continue to rely on essential public transportation. These workers care deeply about the wellbeing of our neighbors and are committed to getting passengers to their destinations safely and on time. I urge both sides to work toward a fair and equitable agreement as soon as possible," said Rep. Sykes.

Negotiations have been ongoing for more than 17 months without resolution, raising concerns that further delays could threaten access to essential transportation.
