Representative Jared Patterson secures funding for Exide cleanup

(June 4, 2025*) Texas State Representative Jared Patterson has secured funding for the City of Frisco for its ongoing efforts to remediate the former Exide Battery Recycling Center site. Once complete, the cleanup of this site should help the development of Grand Park, the 1,011-acre crown jewel of North Texas public parks spanning from Dallas North Tollway west to Lake Lewisville and FM 423.

This budget consideration directs the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to allow Frisco to exhaust all funds spent for the remediation project over the next two years up to the $24 million in total funds within the Hazardous and Solid Waste Remediation Fee Account. This fund was opened for Frisco's use at this site due to a 2021 bill passed by Rep. Patterson. That same session, Patterson procured an initial investment of $3 million from the State of Texas for this effort.

"Frisco taxpayers should not bear the brunt of paying for the cleanup of this site, which served the state as the only battery recycling facility in Texas," stated Rep. Patterson. "I'd like to thank the City of Frisco staff for working with me to bring attention to this matter."
