The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) gives notice of the following actions regarding Medicaid-reimbursable services for youth reentering the community prior to and upon release from incarceration under the State Plan under Title XIX of the Social Security Act Medical Assistance Program (Medicaid) and the Children's Health Insurance Program.
Effective on or after Jan. 1, 2025, per the guidelines set forth in the federal Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023, Section 5121, SCDHHS will facilitate reimbursement of mandatory screenings and diagnostic services, identified specifically within the Early and Periodic, Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment requirements, and targeted case management to juveniles and individuals ages 19-26 who were formerly in foster care in the 30 days pre-release and 30 days post-release from incarceration.
SCDHHS is making these changes to support access to medical and behavioral health services and ensure services are delivered effectively for all eligible members.
Based on the actions above, SCDHHS anticipates a budget impact of approximately $43,500 total dollars per year.
