Half Cent Call for Projects: Submit your project ideas by April 30

Your input matters! Starting April 1, community members are invited to share their thoughts on public improvement projects as part of the annual Half Cent Sales Tax Call for Projects. Feedback will be accepted through April 30 and can be submitted online at Half Cent Call for Projects Form.

During the week of Monday, April 13 through Friday, April 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., community members can schedule a 15-minute meeting with an Engineering team member to discuss proposed projects. Meetings can be in person or virtual. To schedule an appointment, call the Engineering Department at (903) 531-1126.

Types of Projects Considered:

  • Roads & Traffic Improvements: Street enhancements and reconstructions, traffic signal upgrades and drainage enhancements.

  • Public Safety: Fire stations, police station improvements and other emergency response improvements.

  • Economic Development: Partner with developers for improvements to promote growth.

  • Infrastructure Upgrades: Airport improvements, municipal facilities and other City-wide projects.

The Half Cent Sales Tax fund does not cover the cost of water or wastewater system improvements.

Proposed projects are evaluated based on community needs, potential impact, cost and alignment with Tyler's long-term growth goals. Each year the Half Cent Sales Tax Board develops a proposed Annual Work Plan and an annual budget it recommends to the City Council. The plan includes future projects and those prior projects which are not completed.

Approved by voters in 1995, the Half Cent Sales Tax program has funded more than $200 million in transportation, public safety, drainage and park improvements, all without raising property taxes.
