Rep. Bell and Rep. Smith lead Missouri Delegation to Urge Federal Disaster Declaration Following Missouri Tornados

Washington, D.C.- Today, Representative Wesley Bell (D-Mo.) and Representative Jason Smith (R-Mo.) led the entire Missouri delegation in the House and Senators Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) in sending a letterto President Donald J. Trump requesting he grant Governor Mike Kehoe's request to immediately authorize a federal disaster declaration in 28 Missouri counties impacted by recent severe weather and make available federal assistance to support Missouri's recovery efforts.

"Given the severity of this disaster and the need for federal support, we urge swift approval of Missouri's request. We appreciate your attention and stand ready to help ensure resources reach those in need" wrote the lawmakers.

"The damage from the deadly March 14 tornadoes is devastating, and communities across our state are in urgent need of federal support," said Rep. Bell. "I urge the President to grant Missouri's emergency declaration request without delay so we can continue to rebuild and recover."

The letterwas also signed by Representatives Ann Wagner (R-Mo.), Bob Onder (R-Mo.), Mark Alford (R-Mo.), Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.), Sam Graves (R-Mo.), and Eric Burlison (R-Mo.). The request from Governor Kehoe was for assistance in cleaning up after the storms that impacted Missouri from March 14-15 this year.
