Jackdaw decision 'imminent'

Reacting to Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh's comnfirmation today that a decision on the Jackdaw gas field is imminent, Friends of the Earth energy campaigner Danny Gross, said:

"The government must stand up to the fossil fuel industry and reject Jackdaw. Giving projects like this the green light would help to intensify the climate emergency instead of transitioning to the fair and sustainable future we urgently need, while creating new green jobs.

"In recent months, communities across the country have faced wildfires, drought and deadly heat. Approving new oil and gas production will only add to the crisis, while doing nothing to protect households from volatile energy prices or deliver genuine energy security.

"We have the solutions. We can build a clean, affordable energy system based on renewables, better storage and energy efficiency. What's missing is the political will. Andy Burnham must show leadership by facing down gas and oil lobbying and saying no to Jackdaw and Rosebank."
