Altoona women’s tennis lands All-AMCC selections, Colaianni shares top honor

Penn State Altoona student-athletes Corey Chamberlain, of Claysburg, and Jake Hillard, of State College, earned weekly awards from the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference on April 7 when the league office announced that Chamberlain was its Pitcher of the Week and Hillard was its Player of the Week.

LATROBE, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's tennis student-athlete Lexi Colaianni, of Pittsburgh, was voted the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's co-Player of the Year and a total of four Lions picked up all-conference status, as the league announced its postseason awards for women's tennis on Oct. 22.

Colaianni shares the AMCC Player of the Year honors with Penn State Behrend's Tamanna Sharma and Pitt-Greensburg's Gabi Moder, following a three-player tie in the vote. Colaianni was also a first-team all-conference selection for No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles.

Additionally, Daniel Fulton, of Milford, DE, earned spots on the first team of the All-AMCC squad for both No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles. Sienna Fell, of Canonsburg, was a second-team selection for No. 4 singles, and fellow sophomore Abigail Morgan (Orrville, OH/Orrville) was a second-team pick at No. 5 singles.

First Team

  • Lexi Colaianni, No. 3 Singles: Colaianni posted a spotless 4-0 record in AMCC matches played at the No. 3 singles position, part of an 11-2 overall record in that lineup spot. Her AMCC wins at No. 3 came against opponents from Carlow University, Penn State Behrend, Mount Aloysius College, and La Roche University. She went 12-3 in all of her singles matches combined. Colaianni was twice named the AMCC Player of the Week this fall.
  • Daniel Fulton, No. 6 Singles: Fulton compiled a 3-1 mark against AMCC opponents in No. 6 singles matches while going 8-2 overall in that position. Fulton had AMCC wins at No. 6 singles over Carlow, Penn State Behrend, and La Roche. Fulton finished the fall with a 10-2 mark overall in all singles positions.
  • Lexi Colaianni/Daniel Fulton, No. 3 Doubles: Colaianni and Fulton went 4-1 against AMCC competition in No. 3 doubles matches, posting wins over Carlow, Mount Aloysius, La Roche, and Pitt-Greensburg. The duo went 10-2 overall at No. 3 doubles this fall, as well as an 11-2 overall mark in all of their doubles matches played. Colaianni and Fulton's total of 11 wins tied for the most of any doubles par on the team this season.

Second Team

  • Sienna Fell, No. 4 Singles: Fell was 3-1 in AMCC matches at the No. 4 singles spot, posting victories against Carlow, Mount Aloysius, and La Roche. Overall, she was 12-2 in No. 4 singles matches and 13-2 in all singles positions, tying for the most singles wins on the team.
  • Abigail Morgan, No. 5 Singles: Morgan had a 3-1 AMCC record in No. 5 singles, defeating conference opponents from Carlow, Mount Aloysius, and La Roche in that spot. Overall, she tied for the most singles wins on the Lions by finishing the fall with a 13-1 record, including going 12-1 overall at No. 5 singles. Morgan also earned one AMCC Player of the Week award during the season.

Penn State Altoona women's tennis finished its fall schedule with a 14-2 overall record, including a 4-1 AMCC mark that placed the team second in the conference's regular season standings. The Lions went on to finish the AMCC Tournament as the runner-up.

Women's tennis returns to action in the spring with a handful of regular season matches, beginning with a road trip to face non-conference opponent Juniata College on Tuesday, March 3.
