Notice to the Public and Request for Information

Subject to AS 35.05.850, the Southeast Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:

APPLICANT: Michael Geddes

PROJECT NAME: LAS 36034

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION:

State-owned tide and submerged in Thorne Bay approximately 2.5 miles southeast of the City of Thorne Bay at 55.6736°N 132.4653°W.

LEGAL DESCRIPTION:

Approximately one acre of state-owned tide and submerged land in SE1/4 NW1/4 Section 36, Township 71 South, Range 84 East, Copper River Meridian and NE1/4 NW1/4 Section 36, Township 71 South, Range 84 East, Copper River Meridian.

REQUESTED ACTIVITY:

Michael Geddes (applicant) is requesting a five-year Land Use Permit for the year-around moorage of a personal use float home. The float home is comprised of two floats: a house float (30 feet by 58 feet, total 1,740 square feet) and a shed float (50 feet by 20 feet, total 1,000 square feet). The house float has a single-story structure with 1,000 square feet of living space while the shed float has three sheds, one is 5 feet by 8 feet and the other two are 6 feet by 10 feet each for a total of 160 square feet. Secured to the house float is one log breakwater. And both floats are secured to the state-owned uplands by six shore ties.

PROPOSED DATES OF USE:

Start: April 21, 2026

End: April 20, 2031

DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS: July 29, 2026

The public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a discussion is made on this activity. To ensure consideration, written comments must be received by the Division of Mining, Land and Water at the Southeast Regional Land Office, 400 Willoughby Ave./PO Box 111020, Juneau, AK 99811-1020 or to the email address below on or before 5:00 PM on the date noted above. After review and adjudication, we may issue an authorization with stipulations for the activity. The activity may be modified during the review and adjudication process.
