(BINGHAMTON, N.Y.)-Mayor Jared M. Kraham on Thursday announced the City is now accepting bids for demolition of the State Street Parking Garage.
Mayor Kraham said: "We're advancing plans to tear down the old, blighted State Street Parking Garage and clear the way for new opportunities in the heart of downtown Binghamton. This demolition will be a major undertaking, and contractors will work closely with the City to ensure the work happens in a safe and timely manner. Cleaning up this corner of downtown will not only add to the beautification happening in the City's arts district but also open the door for further economic development."
The City issued a bid for demolition of the State Street Parking Garage this week, with responses due Wednesday, February 25.
A copy of the bid notice can be found on the City's website: https://www.binghamton-ny.gov/Home/Components/RFP/RFP/370/90
The City-owned State Street Parking Garage closed to the public earlier this month following an announcement by Mayor Kraham last fall about plans for its demolition.
Built in 1970, the garage was at the end of its useful life.
The City's other public parking garages-on Water Street and Hawley Street-remain open to serve downtown parkers. The new 500-spot Water Street Parking Garage opened last year, while the Hawley Street Parking Garage, with over 300 spots, opened in 2021.
