Melanie Beazley of the University of Central Florida is also a cohost of the event.
Kevin is a Water Resources Scientist based in Florida with more than 10 years of experience in water quality assessment, harmful algal bloom monitoring, and the analysis of complex environmental datasets. He specializes in the design and implementation of field sampling programs, statistical evaluation of water quality trends, and geospatial analysis. His work supports the development of science-based management strategies for freshwater and estuarine systems. Kevin provides technical leadership in the interpretation of environmental monitoring data, development of pollutant loading models for waterbodies, and the assessment of stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs) for nutrient load reduction. He has also contributed to initiatives focused on fecal bacteria pollution, ecosystem health, and restoration planning.
Rosemary is a Science Professional at SiREM. She has more than 5 years of experience in lab management in chemical engineering, biotechnology, sustainable energy research, and molecular biology. Rosemary's areas of expertise include treatability studies, method development, proposal writing, and research projects. She adapts and translates established ASTM and USEPA methodology and peer-reviewed literature into protocols for novel treatments. Rosemary is a primary point of contact for SiREM's MST service.
Microbial source tracking (MST) uses molecular biological tools to identify and differentiate biological sources of environmental water contamination, including from wildlife, domestic animals, and human sewage. By identifying specific genetic bacterial markers associated with wild birds, domestic animals, dogs, and humans, the biotic origin of contamination can be confirmed. Once the contamination type is known, source identification, risk assessment, and remediation become much easier. Because SiREM is a veteran provider of molecular biological tools for groundwater remediation and SARS CoV-2 (COVID 19) testing in wastewater, provision of MST testing services is a natural progression. In this webinar, attendees will hear leading researchers and practitioners talk about the fundamentals of MST, the process of MST development, and the practical use of MST methods in real-world scenarios.
