"Today marks Eid al-Fitr, the festival that signals the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting, reflection and prayer. After fasting from dawn to dusk throughout Ramadan, Muslim Albertans will gather for prayer and shared meals with loved ones, breaking their fast together.
"Eid al-Fitr is a time of gratitude and renewal, highlighting the values of compassion, generosity and care for others that are central to the Muslim faith. Muslims around the world mark this day by supporting their communities and affirming their devotion through acts of charity and giving.
"More than 200,000 Muslims call Alberta home, and Eid al-Fitr provides an opportunity to recognize the many ways they contribute to and enrich our province socially, culturally and economically.
"We extend our warmest wishes to all those celebrating Eid al-Fitr and hope the day is filled with peace, joy and blessings.
"Eid Mubarak!"
