Notice of Temporary Water System Cleaning: Switch to Free Chlorine

Notice of Temporary Water System Cleaning: Switch to Free Chlorine

Published on October 16, 2025

The City of Waco will perform routine system maintenance to keep your water clean and safe. This system-wide cleaning will take place from Monday, October 20 to Monday, November 17, 2025.

During this time, we'll temporarily change the disinfectant in your water from chloramine to free chlorine. This is a normal and widely used process that helps remove organic buildup in pipes caused by things like warm weather and water sitting in the system. Doing this keeps water quality high, reduces future maintenance, and extends the life of the water system.

You may notice a slight change in taste or smell while we use free chlorine. Your water is still safe to drink and use. These changes are temporary and will go back to normal once the process is complete.

Residents with questions or concerns are welcomed to contact us at (254) 299-2489 or use the MyWaco app.
