Cameron University to honor Hoepfner with retirement tribute concert April 21

Cameron University's Department of Art, Music and Theatre Arts will celebrate the retirement of Dr. Gregory Hoepfner after 25 years of service to the university with a special concert featuring his compositions, performances by students, alumni, and community ensembles. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on April 21 in the University Theatre.

The program will showcase a selection of Dr. Hoepfner's works honoring his contributions as a teacher and composer. Performers and guests will include Cameron students and alumni, the CU Concert Choir and Gold Notes, the Centenary United Methodist Church Choir and the Lawton High School Choir.

"Greg's dedication to composition, excellence and student mentorship has left an indelible mark on our department and the wider musical community," said Christian Morren, associate professor of voice and choral director at Cameron. "We are delighted to celebrate his career with colleagues, students, alumni and community partners."

Hoepfner is a longstanding member of the university's music faculty, serving as professor, accompanist and coordinator of the New Music Festival. His works are published and performed nationally. His career includes awards, commissions and active involvement in fostering contemporary composition.

He received his bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Central Oklahoma and his DMA in Composition from the University of Oklahoma, studying with Carolyn Bremer and Robert Dillon.

Hoepfner has received awards from the Florissant, Missouri Bicentennial Commission, Britten-on-the-Bay Competition, the Amadeus Choir of Toronto, Oklahoma Music Teachers Association and the Kennedy Center American College.

Admission to the Hoepfner tribute is free, but tickets are required. They can be obtained online at https://www.cameron.edu/art-music-and-theatre/events/music or by calling 580-581-2346.

A reception will follow immediately after the concert in Cameron's Blackbox Theatre, located in the same building as the University Theatre.
