Chief United States Bankruptcy Judge Peter C. McKittrick announced that the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has selected attorney Kathryn F. Evans to serve as United States Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Oregon, effective March 5, 2026. This appointment fills the vacancy created by the retirement of U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Thomas M. Renn. Judge Evans's chambers will be located in Eugene, Oregon.
Since 2015, Judge Evans has served as a trial attorney with U.S. Trustee Program in Seattle, Washington, representing the U.S. Trustee on matters in the District of Alaska, District of Oregon, and Western District of Washington. Prior to joining the U.S. Trustee Program, Judge Evans worked as an associate attorney at Klehr, Harrison, Harvey, Branzburg, LLP in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 2009 to 2015. Before entering private practice, Judge Evans began her legal career serving as a law clerk at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania for the Honorable Robert N. Opel II from 2006 to 2009 and the late Honorable John J. Thomas from 2005 to 2006.
Judge Evans graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego in 2002. Judge Evans earned her Juris Doctor from the University of California Hastings College of Law (now University of California College of Law San Francisco) in 2005.
