M-119 repairs near Stutsmanville Road to start June 23

GAYLORD, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will invest $300,000 to stabilize the slope beneath a section of M-119 near West Stutsmanville Road, between Harbor Springs and Good Hart.

County:
Emmet

Highway:
M-119

Closest communities:
Harbor Springs, Good Hart

Start date:
Tuesday, June 23, 2026

Estimated end date:
Friday, July 31, 2026

Traffic restrictions:
M-119 will remain closed to through-traffic between West Stutsmanville Road and Terpening Road during this work, with access to homes and businesses maintained. M-119 through-traffic will continue to be detoured on Terpening Road and West Stutsmanville Road.

Project background:
This project will repair and stabilize the slope beneath M-119, which began to fail following flooding in April. Contractors for MDOT will be installing a retaining wall beneath M-119 and installing new guardrail.

A section of M-119 that washed out near Division Road south of Cross Village during the same April flooding event remains closed, with traffic detoured on Island View Road and North State Road. No firm timeline for repairs to that section is known at this time. The road is expected to remain closed until summer 2027.

Safety benefit:
This repair will restore the stability of the roadway in this area.
