Southern University Chancellor Pierre introduces elevated tailgate experience to benefit student scholarship fund

Southern University and A&M College Chancellor John K. Pierre is introducing Lacumba's Lair, an elevated football tailgate experience designed to bring Southern alumni, supporters, friends and Jaguar fans together while supporting the university's students.

The inaugural Lacumba's Lair experience will take place Saturday, Sept. 5, from 2 p.m. through game time at the Southern University Welcome Center. The event will honor legendary Southern football coach Pete Richardson, celebrating his extraordinary legacy and impact on Jaguar football. This gathering is also during the first home football game of the season, aptly named the Pete Richardson Classic.

"We wanted to create something that captures the energy, pride and tradition that make Southern game days special," Pierre said. "Lacumba's Lair is about bringing our Jaguar family together, celebrating our history and creating new traditions while investing in the future of our students."

Lacumba's Lair will feature Louisiana-inspired cuisine, beverages, a live DJ and musical entertainment, interactive activations, game-viewing screens, photo opportunities, and indoor and outdoor hospitality spaces. Guests may choose between the Lair Experience and a limited-availability Premium Lair Experience, which includes preferred parking, reserved seating, premium hospitality and an exclusive game-day experience.

Advance ticket purchase is required, and guests are asked to wear white, the color of the first home football game of the season. Football game tickets or access to the A.W. Mumford Stadium are not included with the Lacumba's Lair experience.

Proceeds from Lacumba's Lair will support the Chancellor's Access and Opportunity Fund.
