D.A. Bragg: Zykil Adamson Sentenced For Shooting At Recording Studio

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the prison sentence of ZYKIL ADAMSON, 26, to 17 years in state prison and 5 years of post-release supervision for shooting a 26-year-old man in the head at a recording studio in March 2024. On April 7, 2026, ADAMSON pleaded guilty in New York State Supreme Court to one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree.

"Zykil Adamson has been sentenced to 17 years in state prison for shooting a 26-year-old man in the head after an argument," said District Attorney Bragg. "My thoughts are with the victim who will be paralyzed for the rest of his life due to this near-fatal shooting. Combatting gun violence is our top priority, and those who use guns to endanger the lives of others will be held accountable."

According to court documents and statements made on the record in court, and as admitted in the defendant's guilty plea, ADAMSON, the victim, and numerous other individuals were hanging out at a music recording studio at 584 8^th Avenue on March 6, 2024.

The following day, ADAMSON stole an imitation pistol from the victim. When the victim realized the pistol was missing, he called ADAMSON and demanded that he return it. They argued and at approximately 12:25 a.m. on March 8^th, ADAMSON returned to the room and shot the sleeping victim once in the side of the head. The victim suffered a catastrophic brain injury and will be paralyzed on the left side of his body for the rest of his life.

Justin McNabney (Chief of the Special Victims Division) handled the prosecution of this case under the supervision of Assistant D.A. Christopher Prevost (Deputy Chief of the Trial Division) and Executive Assistant D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division). Major Case Analyst Desi Marks and Investigative Analyst Jaden Bharara provided valuable assistance in this case.

D.A. Bragg thanked the NYPD, particularly Detective John Tuohy from the Midtown South Detective Squad and Detective Oscar Diaz from the Manhattan South Homicide Squad.
