After six years of work, The University of Texas at Dallas and Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) celebrated the opening of the UT Dallas Station on the new DART Silver Line with a ribbon-cutting on Oct. 23. The Silver Line began service on Oct. 25 and will remain free to ride through Nov. 8.
The UT Dallas Station, located just north of campus beyond the Northside development, is the fourth westbound stop on a 10-station, 26-mile regional rail service linking seven cities - Plano, Richardson, Dallas, Addison, Carrollton, Coppell and Grapevine - with Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
"This station is more than just a stop; it's a gateway for students and faculty, for business and research entities," said Dr. Calvin D. Jamison, vice president for facilities and economic development. "This station is more than just a conglomeration of steel, rock and concrete. It's an example of what can be created with vision, perseverance and connection.

"Since the 1980s, regional transit plans have been drafted, reviewed, revised, paused and restarted, but the idea never faded. Now, as we gather here today, we have the opportunity to witness the result of years of planning, selfless negotiations, critical financial investment and treasured public support."
The link to the DART system is expected to improve accessibility to major employment, educational and cultural opportunities in the area while supporting economic development.
"We are a university that's on the rise. We've never been still. When I see UT Dallas, I see possibilities. I see potential. I see a spring in its step," said Dr. Prabhas V. Moghe, UT Dallas president. "I see this as a connection to the world. It will bring people to us, but it will also carry our ideas to the world."
UT Dallas students, faculty and staff can ride the DART system at a discounted rates through a couple of pass programs.
DART Access passes are available at no additional cost for most currently enrolled UT Dallas students. This program allows unlimited rides on DART local bus and train service.
Faculty and staff may apply for a discounted annual DART Access pass through the current partnership with DART and UT Dallas. Current rates can be found online.
