ATLANTA - State Representative Tangie Herring (D-Macon) was recently selected to participate in the Center for the Advancement of Leadership Skills (CALS) Class of 2026, hosted by the Council of State Governments Southern Office (CSG South). Rep. Herring joined a group of lawmakers from across the Southern region for the program, which is designed for state government officials to hone essential skills in communication, conflict resolution and consensus building.
"I am deeply honored to have joined the 2026 CALS Class and to represent the people of Georgia in this program," said Rep. Herring. "Effective governance requires continuous growth, and this opportunity allowed me to refine the skills necessary to advocate fiercely for our community. I enjoyed collaborating with other dedicated public servants from across the South to find innovative ways to solve the complex challenges facing our states."
CALS is organized by CSG's Southern Office, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization established in 1947 to support state officials across its 15 member states and promote intergovernmental cooperation. Participants are chosen through a selection process and are awarded a full scholarship that covers all tuition, travel and lodging expenses. By gathering lawmakers and executive leaders, the program seeks to foster a collaborative regional forum where officials can share best practices and develop practical, consensus-driven solutions that can be applied directly within their home legislatures.
"Bringing strong, effective leadership to the General Assembly is my top priority," added Rep. Herring. "By strengthening my abilities in consensus building, I will be better equipped to deliver real, tangible results for everyday Georgians. I am excited to bring the insights gained from this immersive experience back home and put them to work for our state."
More information about the CALS program may be found here.
Representative Tangie Herring represents the citizens of District 145, which includes portions of Bibb and Monroe counties. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2024 and currently serves on the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Code Revision, Economic Development & Tourism and Urban Affairs committees.
