We are thrilled to announce that Emily Davies, a dogged news-breaker and graceful storyteller, is joining the Politics team as a political news reporter traveling across the country to talk to voters and candidates.
She joins us from The Washington Post, where she distinguished herself during her six years on the White House beat, regularly showcasing her nose for news and source development. She became known for always looking for - and finding - the human impact of policy and politics. She landed scoops revealing private deliberations at the highest levels of government and wrote deep narratives with nuance and clarity about people who seek to hold the powerful to account.
Emily broke the news in the aftermath of the work of the Department of Government Efficiency that senior Trump administration officials had privately warned that mass firings would be illegal, then captured the quiet regret of a woman left jobless by the president she helped elect. She revealed internal deliberations behind the White House's move to assert control over Washington, and chronicled growing distrust in both political parties from a mahjong table in Iowa.
Before entering national politics, Emily covered crime and policing in Washington, producing agenda-setting reporting that showed her flair for developing a wide array of sources as well as her eye for the experiences of those who bear the brunt of political decisions. Emily is also a lovely and enthusiastic colleague with an infectious passion for great stories.
Please join us in welcoming her.
