Congresswoman Ross Votes for War Powers Resolution

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) voted for a bipartisan War Powers Resolution to curb President Trump's use of miliary force in Iran and prevent further military action without congressional authorization.

"The Constitution explicitly gives Congress the authority and heavy responsibility to declare war. President Trump does not have the power to send our nation into war unilaterally.

"In a bipartisan, classified briefing, senior Trump administration officials failed to provide sufficient evidence of an imminent threat to justify this attack and risk the lives of American service members.

"The President has still not made the case for war to Congress or the American people. Trump and his inexperienced Secretary of War have no plan or defined strategy to prevent our country from being dragged into another protracted conflict in the Middle East.

"This War Powers Resolution is a necessary first step to check the President's abuse of military authority and protect American lives."
