University of Charleston Ranked Best College in West Virginia by Niche for the Second Year in a Row

The University of Charleston (UC) has been named the top college in West Virginia by Niche in its 2027 rankings of the best West Virginia colleges.

UC received high marks in academics, professors, campus food, athletics, campus food, and overall student life, underscoring the quality and value of the UC experience. It also rated highly in dorms, safety, and diversity.

"Being recognized as the best college in West Virginia two years in a row is a tremendous honor for our entire community," said UC President Marty Roth. "What makes this recognition especially rewarding is that it is driven largely by student and alumni feedback. Their experiences confirm what we strive to create every day: a university where students are supported, challenged, and empowered to succeed. At UC, we are committed to ensuring that every student has the tools, opportunities, and encouragement to make the most of their higher education journey."

The Niche Best Colleges ranking is based on rigorous analysis of academic, admissions, financial, and student life data from the U.S. Department of Education along with millions of reviews from students and alumni.

"Everything we do begins with student success," said Virginia Moore, Vice President and Dean of Students. "We believe every student has the potential to thrive at UC. We work hard to create a welcoming environment where students feel they belong, know where to find support when they need it, and have opportunities to connect, grow, and enjoy their college experience. Our goal is to help students become confident, capable graduates who are ready for the future."

Niche evaluates schools to help prospective students find the college where they belong.

The annual rankings help students and their families identify institutions that align with their academic goals, personal values, budgets, and campus preferences. UC's strong performance reflects its commitment to fostering a welcoming, safe, and academically engaging environment for its students.

"It's incredibly rewarding to see the University of Charleston recognized for its excellence," Student Government Association President Connor McKown said. "As a student, I experience firsthand the ways UC sets us up for success. This ranking reflects not just the academics but the strong community that makes UC a place where students truly belong and thrive."
