Defendant Sentenced for Shooting Murder at 49er Truck Stop

On July 31, 2026, the Honorable Shelleyanne Chang sentenced Quentin Respers to 40 years to life in prison. On May 1, 2026, Respers was convicted by a jury of second-degree murder with the allegation of personally discharging a firearm causing death to be true. He was also convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

On June 24, 2022, officers were dispatched to a reported shooting at the 49er Truck Stop. Responding officers found the victim, Abrina Wheeler, suffering from a gunshot wound and unresponsive inside the truck stop store. Surveillance video showed Quentin Respers shoot the victim at close range after she spilled some Gatorade on him. Respers is then seen casually walking out of the store to his vehicle and leaving the scene.
