Cameron Hamilton Confirmed as New FEMA Administrator

WASHINGTON -- Under President Donald J. Trump and Secretary Mullin, FEMA is restoring its original mission--serving as a lean, deployable disaster force that empowers states, tribes and local leaders. The agency is faster, more responsive and more capable than ever-delivering timely, effective support to Americans in times of crisis. FEMA announced its newly confirmed Administrator, Mr. Cameron Hamilton, who is charged to lead this mission. He was sworn in for his new role on Aug. 10, 2026.

"I deeply believe in the FEMA mission, which is rooted in servant leadership - a principle I've remained committed to throughout my own career," said Administrator Hamilton. "The American people deserve a FEMA that is not bogged down with bureaucracy, but one that is focused on preparing and supporting state, local, tribal and territorial governments to get the help that is needed to their communities."

Administrator Hamilton previously served as the Senior Official Performing the Duties of the FEMA Administrator in 2025. He has nearly 20 years of experience in executive leadership, public service, response and recovery operations, special operations, logistics, program management and more--spanning five presidential administrations. His career encompasses roles in national security, crisis response, government contracting, force protection, scientific study and serving the United States Government across permissive and non-permissive environments.

Mr. Hamilton served the United States and the American people as a Navy SEAL in SEAL Team 8, specializing in developing and implementing detailed crisis response plans for chemical, biological and radiological terrorism and related incidents. As an Emergency Management Specialist at the State Department, he led operational, emergency and medical service support planning initiatives, applying a risk-informed and all-hazards approach to drive strategic preparedness and response. He has successfully led operations and sensitive activities in high-threat and critical-threat environments. At the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, he served as Director of Emergency Medical Services, overseeing standards and management for more than 4,000 EMS and First Responder personnel. His experience and skills gained over the years provide a strong foundation, empowering him to lead the nation's emergency response efforts.

General responsibilities of the FEMA Administrator include coordinating and supporting state, local, territorial partners and Tribal Nations with their response and recovery efforts with requested guidance, resources and coordinated programs.
