On Friday September 19th just before midnight, SPD officers responded to an auto dealership located in the 1300 block of West 3rd Avenue on what was initially reported as an argument. Officers contacted the complainant and were advised that as two subjects were arguing near the dealership, one of them began throwing rocks at vehicles in the parking lot. The suspect then left the area prior to police arrival.

As officers were speaking with the witness, security for the dealership contacted 911 advising they had surveillance video of the event. Officers checked the lot and discovered 16 vehicles had been damaged, some extensively. The initial estimate to repair the damaged vehicles was $100,000.00 but could possibly be much higher.

Officers viewed the security video and obtained a description of the suspect, later identified as Katie L. Sims, 34. The following day, officers in the Downtown area contacted Sims walking in the area of 1600 West Sprague. Sims was wearing the same clothes as seen in the security video the night before. Sims was taken into custody and booked into the Spokane County Jail for 1st Degree Malicious Mischief.
