On 27 May, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys will travel to Cyprus to attend an informal meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers of the European Union (Gymnich).
The EU Foreign Affairs Ministers will discuss Russia's aggression against Ukraine, support for Ukraine, and measures to increase pressure on Russia. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, will also attend the meeting.
Another topical theme of the meeting is the preparation of a new European Security Strategy. The heads of diplomacy of the 27 EU member states will discuss preparedness to face the challenges posed by the changing geopolitical environment and how best to protect the EU's interests in this context.
Ministers will also meet with Indian Foreign Minister Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. The discussion with representatives of these countries will focus on the impact of the crisis in the Middle East on the Gulf countries, the global security situation, the global economy, and the stability of energy supply.
The format is named after Schloss Gymnich, a castle in Germany, where the very first meeting of this kind took place in 1974. Informal meetings are traditionally held every six months in the country holding the Presidency of the Council of the EU.
