Small Business Month

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Small Business Month

WHEREAS, Virginia's small businesses serve a vital role in strengthening the Commonwealth by driving local innovation, fostering entrepreneurship, creating jobs, and contributing to resilient and vibrant communities across Virginia; and

WHEREAS, small businesses represent a significant share of Virginia's employers and play a central role in fostering economic resilience by supporting local supply chains, encouraging entrepreneurship, and generating economic activity that strengthens both rural and urban communities; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth recognizes the accomplishments of Virginia's small businesses and entrepreneurs, whose innovation, dedication, and perseverance are central to building and sustaining a strong and resilient Virginia economy; and

WHEREAS, Virginia's small businesses strengthen communities by providing employment opportunities, supporting local philanthropy, and serving as gathering places that enhance civic life and community identity; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth acknowledges the importance of ensuring that small businesses have access to a skilled workforce, modern infrastructure, broadband connectivity, and the resources necessary to compete in a dynamic economy; and

WHEREAS, supporting small businesses is essential to maintaining Virginia's long-term economic competitiveness, expanding opportunity, and ensuring that prosperity is shared across all regions of the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering an environment where small businesses can thrive, where affordability is protected, and where entrepreneurs have the tools and support needed to build strong, sustainable futures for themselves and their communities; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize May 2026, as SMALL BUSINESS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
