Sweden National Day

Sweden National Day

Press Statement

Marco Rubio, Secretary of State

June 6, 2026

On behalf of the United States of America, I extend my best wishes to the people of the Kingdom of Sweden as you celebrate your National Day.

Our enduring friendship is built on a proud history that extends back to 1783, when Sweden became one of the first nations to recognize American independence. Today, we enjoy a vital security, economic, and scientific partnership, which will only grow in the coming years.

Beyond our shared defense objectives, the United States and Sweden are actively shaping the future of global innovation. Sweden's milestone as the first European nation to sign the Pax Silica Declaration marks a crucial step forward in securing the critical technology supply chains our modern economies depend upon, and the recently signed Technology Prosperity Deal will deepen our collaboration in the next frontiers of research and emerging capabilities.

Whether through our security cooperation, cutting-edge commercial ties, or the millions of Swedish Americans who enrich our own nation, the links between our peoples remain as strong as ever. The United States looks forward to expanding this exceptional partnership in the years ahead.

I wish all Swedes a memorable and peaceful celebration.
