WASHINGTON, D.C. - Representative John W. Mannion (NY-22) today announced the House's unanimous passage of the bipartisan Mikaela Naylon Give Kids a Chance Act, legislation he cosponsored to strengthen pediatric cancer research, speed the development of therapies for rare childhood diseases, and expand access to life-saving treatments for families across the country.
Representative John W. Mannion (NY-22) said, "A pediatric cancer diagnosis is a devastating reality for any family, and government should be working to remove barriers so children have the best chance at a positive outcome. The Give Kids a Chance Act cuts through red tape to incentivize drug development for pediatric rare diseases, supports the research that leads to breakthrough therapies, and gives families more options and more hope. I'm proud to help advance legislation that puts children and their futures first."
The Give Kids a Chance Act removes longstanding barriers that have slowed pediatric research, including allowing the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to require studies of new cancer drugs in combination with already-approved therapies - a standard approach in adult oncology that has been unavailable to too many children. It also renews key programs that drive private investment in pediatric drug research and helps prevent delays in bringing innovative treatments to market for rare diseases.
The bill now moves to the Senate.
