Make Modesto Mo'Beautiful!

At Love Modesto this weekend, the City of Modesto will be there with information about the Blight Abatement Strategy to keep Modesto Mo'Beautiful. This campaign is a response to illegal dumping and blight within the City's communities. Communities that this initiative hopes to bring together and take charge towards a cleaner, safer, and Mo'Beautiful Modesto.

Blight is a reoccurring issue within the City of Modesto, one we hope to mitigate. Blight is defined as anything that makes an area unsightly or unkept. This includes trash, debris, graffiti, and other discarded items. Blight creates an unkept appearance for the city and invites continued dumping. Through this campaign, blight abatement and prevention will be the primary goal. Mo'Beautiful promotes various programs that will help residents prevent blight within their city.

Mo'Beautiful calls upon the residents of Modesto to act against illegal dumping and to take pride in their community and their City. Programs such as Bulky Item Collection are available to properly dispose of large household items. There are often events such as Love Modesto, that give residents the opportunity to connect and clean up our City. Residents can also sign up to host community service events or apply to be part of the Blight Abatement Advisory Committee.

Mo'Beautiful is a community-driven effort that drives to create and sustain partnerships internally between city departments and with external community partners such as the Downtown Modesto Partnership, Downtown Streets Team, Love Modesto, Dry Creek Trail Coalition, and Operation 9-2-99. The collaboration within the community creates a more cohesive effort to help mitigate blight.

A lot of the Bligh Abatement efforts of Mo'Beautiful are funded by Measure H, a one-cent sales that helps fund city services. These funds contribute to blight mitigation in the form of services to reduce homelessness, blight code enforcement, street maintenance, and implementation of the Blight Abatement Team. The City also identifies and allocates grant funding to contribute to the success beautification success of our community.

Mo'Beautiful has made an impression within the City of Modesto. In the month of February alone, 51 volunteer hours were logged. In the same month 68,240 lbs. of trash and 11, 540 lbs. of litter were removed from the streets of Modesto. Services that help mitigate blight were also utilized, with 1,123 bulky item pickup appointments made. The Mo'Beautiful message has begun to take shape and ask all residents to make every effort in making Modesto Mo'Beautiful!
