Congresswoman Harriet Hageman Votes to End the Government Shutdown

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Harriet Hageman (R-WY) released the following statement after voting in favor of the Senate Amendment to H.R. 5371 - Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act,ending the longest government shutdown in our nation's history:

"American families have paid the price for the Democrats' decision to keep the government closed for six long weeks. Their reckless and performative standstill accomplished nothing other than imposing hardship on millions of people. Meanwhile, President Trump and Republicans stepped up to ease the burden on our hardworking citizens and to get our country back on track.

We will not allow the Democrats' partisan games to hinder our work for the American people. Our focus has always been, and will continue to be, on putting the needs of our citizens first. It is time to move full steam ahead to deliver real results, restore fiscal responsibility, and address the needs of hardworking Americans.

I'm relieved to finally put this shutdown behind us and to keep working for the people of Wyoming."

This bill reopens the government with a new continuing resolution to provide funding through January 30, and with it, our military servicemembers and air traffic controllers will once again be paid, SNAP and WIC benefits will be reinstated, and agencies will open their doors to do the work of the people. This measure also extends for one year the Farm Bill programs that were not reauthorized last summer in the reconciliation package.

This three-bill package also includes full-year appropriations for the Department of Agriculture, Food and Drug Administration, Congress, military construction, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. This legislative package has several Wyoming-specific priorities that Rep. Hageman has fought for, including:

  • $3 million for the Casper airport to construct a new air traffic control tower with terminal radar approach
  • Language forcing the USDA to acknowledge the shortages in eartags that Wyoming livestock producers have faced since the adoption of the EID mandate under the Biden administration, and directing APHIS to use enforcement discretion when these shortages persist
  • Reinstatement of the Secretary of the USDA to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States to block purchases of U.S. farmland by China and other adversaries
  • Fully funds medical care and benefits for Wyoming's veterans
