Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Courts Subcommittee, has released the eighth episode of season two of his podcast, Making the Case. In the new episode that was released on Friday, Whitehouse welcomes back Congressman Hank Johnson (D-GA), his House counterpart in leading the Bivens Act and Constitutional Accountability Act, to discuss the reforms that are due in light of reckless misconduct from masked ICE agents in Minneapolis. Professors Ed Maguire, an expert on policing tactics, and Mary Mason, an expert on law enforcement accountability, join Whitehouse and Johnson to weigh in on policing reforms and how these two bills would increase accountability and begin to restore public trust.

"I have been the chief law enforcement officer of the State of Rhode Island and the United States Attorney for the State of Rhode Island. I have held those law enforcement press conferences about ongoing law enforcement matters. And if there's one thing that is a primary obligation of someone in that circumstance, it is telling the truth," said Whitehouse. "People need to know what is going on, and they need to get a message from the top of the organization that the truth will be told. That is the opposite of what we are seeing from the federal response out of Minnesota."

The eighth episode of season two of Making the Case is now available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other podcast platforms.

In November, Whitehouse and Johnson reintroduced the Bivens Act to allow citizens to recover damages for constitutional violations by federal officials, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Whitehouse and Johnson also reintroduced the Constitutional Accountability Act, legislation to hold federal law enforcement agencies and police departments accountable for unconstitutional conduct by their officers.
