- Exploring Ways to Strengthen "Partnership for Resilient, Peaceful and Prosperous Pacific" -
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will host the 6th Korea-Pacific Islands Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Seoul on Tuesday, December 9. The event will be co-chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun of the Republic of Korea and Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Peter Shanel Agovaka of Solomon Islands, the chair of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) for this year.
This year's meeting marks the first Korea-Pacific Islands Foreign Ministers' Meeting to be held since Korea expanded invitations to all PIF members. Under the theme "Partnership for Resilient, Peaceful and Prosperous Pacific," the participants will engage in extensive discussions on ways to enhance practical cooperation in a wide range of areas, including development cooperation, climate change, ocean, maritime affairs and fisheries, and people-to-people exchanges, as well as discussions on regional situation and global cooperation.
In addition, on the margins of the meeting, Korea will hold bilateral talks with key participating countries, including Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, the Marshall Islands and Palau. The Pacific Islands delegations will also take part in various cultural and exchange programs during their stay in Korea from December 8 to 10, such as a Korea-Pacific Islands Talk Concert and a visit to the National Museum of Korea.
By holding the 6th Korea-Pacific Islands Foreign Ministers' Meeting, the Korean government expects to continue broadening its diplomatic horizons as a responsible global actor and to further strengthen mutually beneficial partnerships with the Pacific Island countries.
