The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) at 1:20 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 17.
During the test, radio and television broadcasters nationwide will temporarily interrupt regular programming to broadcast an emergency alert test message. The test will last approximately one minute, after which, normal programming will resume.
This year's test will not include cell phones.
Federal law requires FEMA to conduct a nationwide test of the EAS system once every three years. This test helps FEMA and its partners evaluate the system's performance, identify potential technical or operational issues, and ensure it remains ready to deliver timely information during an actual emergency.
