One Year of Republicans’ Extreme Abortion Ban in Iowa

One Year of Republicans' Extreme Abortion Ban in Iowa

New reporting from the Des Moines Register highlights how Iowa women and families have paid the price in the year since Governor Kim Reynolds and Iowa Republicans enacted one of the most extreme and dangerous abortion bans in the nation that affects most pregnant women before they know they are pregnant.

The near-total abortion ban, which was cheered on by GOP candidate for governor Representative Randy Feenstra, "worsens Iowa's health care landscape," and has made it more difficult to obtain essential care in the state, as "the number of Iowa patients traveling to Minnesota and Nebraska for abortions increased 182%".

"The extreme abortion ban passed by Kim Reynolds and Iowa Republicans makes Iowa less free and less safe for women and families," said DGA spokesperson Izzi Levy. "Randy Feenstra and every Republican running for governor will have to own how this extreme ban has hurt Iowans - and we're not going to let voters forget."
