Fiber Optic Infrastructure Installation Along I-80 In Contra Costa Solano And Alameda Counties

Contra Costa, Solano & Alameda Counties - Caltrans is announcing ongoing closures related to the Fiber Optic Infrastructure Project along both eastbound and westbound I-80 in Contra Costa, Solano and Alameda Counties. The installation work began on February 23, 2026, and is scheduled to take place during overnight hours to minimize traffic disruptions

What to Expect:Work will occur Sunday through Thursday, nightly, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM. For the next two weeks, the layout portion will focus on the section from the I-980 to-I-580 interchange toward the connector between I-580 and I-80.

Rolling lane and ramp closures are scheduled on both eastbound and westbound I-80, between Emeryville and the Carquinez Bridge. Motorists should expect temporary closures and minor delays during these overnight construction hours.

The Fiber Optic Infrastructure Project is tentatively scheduled for completion by Winter 2028.

Changeable Message Signs (CMS) will provide advance notice for motorists traveling in the area. Drivers may experience minor delays and are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time. Be work zone alert, drive with caution through the work zone.
