SGMC Health Honors Jones with DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing

SGMC Health honored Carol Jones, Patient Care Coordinator in Pediatrics, as the latest recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. This international recognition celebrates nurses who exemplify compassionate care, clinical excellence, and an unwavering commitment to their patients and colleagues.

Jones, who has been with the health system for 21 years, was nominated by the parent of a young patient who shared how her care made a meaningful difference during an especially difficult time. The family described the experience as overwhelming, but said Jones quickly became a source of comfort and reassurance. From the beginning, she was attentive, proactive, and deeply invested in her patient's well-being, taking time to listen to the family and respond thoughtfully to their needs. Through her care and coordination with the team, the family noticed a clear difference in their child's comfort and overall demeanor during the hospital stay.

"As a mother, having someone who genuinely cares, advocates, and goes above and beyond for both your child and your peace of mind means more than words can express," the nomination read. "Miss Carol's compassion, attentiveness, and leadership made a profound impact on our experience. I am incredibly grateful for the care she provided to my son and to our family."

The DAISY award is presented monthly in front of the nurse's colleagues, physicians, patients, and visitors. Each honoree receives a certificate of recognition, a hand-carved sculpture titled A Healer's Touch from the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe, and a floral arrangement of daisies, generously donated by The Flower Gallery, SGMC Health's local DAISY Award sponsor.

SGMC Health offers a variety of recognition programs to honor employees who embody its tagline of Remarkable People, Extraordinary Care, Human Kindness. To learn more about these awards and other recognition programs, visit sgmc.org/recognition.
