City of Fairfield to begin West Texas Street Construction Project starting July 28

The City of Fairfield, in collaboration with Ghilotti Bros., Inc., will begin major construction improvements on West Texas Street between Beck Street and Pennsylvania Avenue starting July 28, 2025. This comprehensive 12-month project will be completed in phases and is designed to enhance safety and accessibility for all road users.

The project aligns with the City's Complete Streets goals, improving a key corridor that connects downtown, schools, parks, and regional transportation hubs. Planned improvements include:

  • Upgraded traffic signals
  • Safer sidewalks and pedestrian crossings
  • Updated signage and lane markings
  • Improved access to transit and local businesses

During construction, residents and commuters can expect phased street closures and temporary restrictions to driveway access. Work is planned to occur Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Businesses along the corridor, including Dutch Bros and others, will remain open throughout the project. Traffic control devices and flaggers will provide detour routes and assist with driveway access.

The City invites local residents, businesses, and commuters to attend a Community Information Event to learn more about the project, traffic impacts, and its benefits to the community. The event will be held on July 22 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the Lakeside Room at the Community Center, located at 1000 Kentucky Street.
