CCWD Recognizes Local Student Science Fair Winner

Earlier this week, Contra Costa Science & Engineering Fair winner Frank Cattrone from De La Salle High School, was invited to a CCWD Board of Directors meeting for an awards presentation. Before accepting the award and check, Frank presented his winning science project to the Board.

The fair, hosted by Bay Area LEEDs over three days in March, is a regional competition covering multiple disciplines that leads to state, national, and international competitions. CCWD partners with 10 other water, wastewater and recycled water agencies that sponsor the Excellence in Water, Wastewater and Recycled Water Research award category that recognizes outstanding student projects in the disciplines of water.

This year, Board Vice President Antonio Martinez and CCWD staff from several departments joined other agency representatives to support the county-wide science fair. Each year CCWD is amazed at the level of work the students create, as these forward-thinking students continue to push the envelope of innovation and technology - the future is indeed bright!

The science fair partnership is part of the larger CCWD Water Education Program that reaches nearly 30,000 students every year. Although the primary focus for the programs is elementary-school students, the water education programs reach local high school students through different field trips to water treatment plants where students learn about water science and career pathways to the water industry and through various career-readiness events that help students connect what they're learning in school to real jobs in the water industry.
