The New Zealand Anti-Scam Alliance's 2026 work programme, published today, is a comprehensive set of actions that will help protect Kiwis from scams.

It includes a focus on improved disruption tools, smarter data sharing, clearer public guidance, and stronger sector codes and practices.

Scams are having a growing economic and social impact on New Zealanders, with $265M (gross) lost in the year to October 2025. As scam tactics become more sophisticated, a coordinated response is essential.

The Alliance was established in July 2025 to combine and coordinate efforts to reduce harm. It brings together banks, telecommunications providers, digital platforms, consumer groups and government agencies. Since it was established, Alliance members have worked together to deliver cross-sector work and initiatives focused on prevention, detection, and disruption of scams.

The 2026 programme builds on this. Actions include work to expand the banking Confirmation of Payee system, a review of the telecommunications sector Scam Prevention Code, and the development of enhanced tools for reporting scams.
