Public input sought on Howard County bridge project

JEFFERSON CITY , M o . - The Missouri Department of Transportation is seeking community input on a project which will replace the Missouri Route 240 bridge over Salt Creek in Howard County, sout h of Fayette . Built in 193 2 , the bridge is in fair condition and reaching the end of its usable life . Replacing the 93-year-old bridge will require a full closure of Route 240 at the bridge, with a signed detour. Construction is expected in 2027.

Publi c input is essential to help guide the design and construction process . There are multiple ways to comment, ques tion and provide insight : in person, online, by email, and by mail.

The public is invited to attend an open-house style public meeting on T hursday , March 5 , at the Keller Building , 600 W. Morrison Street , in Fayette . Visitors may stop by at any time between 4: 3 0 and 6 p.m. to speak with project team members, view exhibits outlining the planned work , ask questions and leave comments . There will be no formal presentation. Meeting materials will also be available online. MoDOT is committed to providing equal access to this event for all participants. In addition to the public meeting, there will be a three -week open comment period running Feb . 2 6 - March 19 , 2026. All comments must be received or postmarked by March 19 , 202 6 .
