LPD Aerial Traffic Enforcement Initiative set for June | 2025

LPD Aerial Traffic Enforcement Initiative set for June | 2025

Published on June 04, 2025

The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) today announced it will conduct specialized airborne traffic enforcement in June in partnership with the Nebraska State Patrol.

LPD Tactical Flight Officers (TFOs) are sworn Lincoln police officers who serve as airborne observers aboard Nebraska State Patrol aircraft. This innovative collaboration has proven highly effective, leading to the apprehension of some of the city's most dangerous drivers, without the risks associated with traditional ground pursuits.

This initiative provides additional officer resources dedicated specifically to traffic enforcement, allowing personnel to respond in real-time to traffic violations and dangerous driving identified by the TFOs from the air. By combining aerial observation with targeted ground enforcement, LPD aims to enhance road safety while minimizing risk to the public and officers alike.

This enforcement project is made possible by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
