Imagine a Day Without Water
Today, October 16, 2025, Stafford County joins elected officials, water utilities, community leaders, educators and businesses from across the country as part of the eleventh annual "Imagine a Day Without Water," a nationwide day of education and advocacy about the value of water. Millions of people nationwide will participate in "Imagine a Day Without Water," led by the United States Water Alliance's Value of Water Campaign. This National Day of Action aims to raise awareness about the true value of water in people's lives and the need for continued investment in the nation's water infrastructure.
The hard-working men and women at Stafford County Utilities work through holidays and extreme weather, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. These tireless efforts result in the delivery of safe and reliable drinking water to the community. In addition, Stafford County is committed to protecting its natural resources, testing stream and reservoir samples regularly. The Department of Utilities provides nearly 11.5 million gallons of water per day through more than 700 miles of water line in Stafford County. This requires Stafford County's two water treatment facilities, Lake Mooney and Smith Lake, to treat almost four billion gallons of drinking water annually.
