LG&E celebrates Natural Gas Utility Workers' Day, honoring the skilled teams who keep Kentucky safe and energized
(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) - Louisville Gas and Electric Company today proudly recognizes Natural Gas Utility Workers' Day, honoring the dedicated men and women whose expertise, planning and commitment ensure safe, reliable and affordable natural gas service for homes, businesses and industries in Kentucky.
Observed annually on March 18, Natural Gas Utility Workers' Day highlights the essential work performed by gas field and office employees. Throughout the year, these highly trained professionals complete critical maintenance and inspection activities, identify and deliver reinforcement projects, and carefully plan gas supply strategies to keep the system operating safely, reliably and cost-effectively.
Gas operations also prepares year-round for extreme weather. During periods of extreme cold, employees across gas operations respond around the clock to customer needs while maintaining strong system performance and reliability.
"Natural gas utility work is a 24/7 responsibility that requires advanced training, experience and careful planning," said Tom Rieth, Vice President of Gas Operations. "Our teams prepare for extreme conditions, complete essential maintenance and inspections, and make smart infrastructure and supply decisions to ensure our customers receive safe and reliable service at a reasonable cost."
LG&E's natural gas operations team manages approximately 4,800 miles of natural gas distribution and transmission pipelines throughout its service territories. Ongoing inspections, infrastructure upgrades and reinforcement projects help keep gas delivery safe and dependable, even during peak demand periods.
"Our crews often work in challenging conditions, responding to emergencies at all hours and ensuring customers have dependable energy when they need it most," said LG&E President John Crockett. "Their professionalism, qualifications and dedication are essential to the safe operation of our gas system, and we are proud to recognize them today."
LG&E encourages customers to join in recognizing natural gas utility workers by practicing natural gas safety at home and in their neighborhoods, such as contacting 811 before digging and reporting suspected gas leaks immediately.
